Boston Marathon

More bravery of being out of range.

Still no blame (or "credit") has been assigned, but I suspect this could be a bunch of the local crazies, given that it's both Patriots Day and the last day for filing federal income taxes for 2012.

The Boston mayor, Tom Menino, does sound a little too much like Peter Griffin.

The collective media is going mental here - to the point where it's quite hard to get anything resembling credible information.

Whatever the "cause" I hope whoever's behind this gets whats coming to them. And very, very slowly.

Suspect it's likely to be local crazies. Bombs left in waste bins?

Lots of poor sods with serious shrapnel injuries.

The latest seems to indicate they're basically shrapnell bombs with nails and the suchlike loaded into pressure cookers.

In terms of keeping the global peace, it might be best if it does involve a local crazy.

There has been some stuff about a Saudi connection. That would not end well.

London marathon this week, Boston would be enough to keep me away.

The 26.2 miles of running would work for me.

The day of the Boston marathon has always been a bit bitter-sweet for me - a few years ago I joined four of my footie playing mates went down, with four of us going ona freebie to see the Red Sox play and the other "entering" the marathon as a "bandit" runner without an official number.

We met up afterwards and, well, beer and hilarity ensued. Ace!

Sadly, the guy who organised the trip down died shortly after of a heart attack (not the runner) at, I think forty. Not so ace.

Typical. Everything's bigger in Texas.

There's a show here called The Jesselnik Offensive that does exactly what it says on the tin.

I shudder to think what it will be like this week.

I must admit I thought my friends and family had got through all this safely (a surprising number of people I know have run the Boston marathon - something you'd never catch me doing), but apparently I was wrong.

The son of a good friend of one of my neighbours, Jeff Bauman, was apparently waiting for his girlfriend, who was running the race, to finish and has had to have both his legs amputated.

The wife of one of the blokes I played indoor footie with tonight, Jamie Morse, was running the marathon for the first time and was between the two blasts when they went off. Luckily she is physically uninjured (and is a physiotherapist by training, so has seen/worked on dead bodies in the past) but she has been unable to sleep since.

I really hope whoever is behind this gets what's coming to them.

So sad.

Why do we have to do this to each other? I'm with the beauty contest lasses wanting world peace.

Shitsticks.

Apparently Jeff was the lad saved by the guy in the cowboy hat - you'll have probably seen the image of him holding Jeff's femoral artery as he is taken off in a wheelchair with his legs below his knees already missing.

I won't repost it here - it makes me queasy just thinking about it - but if you type Carlos Arredondo (the guy in the cowboy hat), you'll find the picture. Carlos' story is something else too.

I suppose the lad is lucky (not quite the right word somehow) to be alive, but, well, words fail me.

For once words fail me when you see something like that.

Boston is mental today - they're actively chasing one of the suspects as I type.
