Barca

Oooh get me....I'm going to Barca next month on a work related trip, yeah somebody had to.

I'm staying near the marina area and will have the first half day there to explore the wonderful city. I plan to visit the footie ground.

Any other sights I must see?
Robert Robinson

Ash - I posted loads about the place on the other site.

If you're near the Marina check out this very strange bar at the bottom of las Ramblas.

There's also a very good bar crawl to be had around the Gothic Quarter.

Difficult in half a day Ash, but if you get the chance to go up to the top of Tibidabo the view is breathtaking.

The fountains at Placa Espana are worth a visit , the Olympic Stadium at montjuic, Barrio Gotico is good for bars. Also down at The Born is another good area for bars and cafes.

Parc Guell and Casa Batillo are worth seeing, as well as la sagrada familia - all Gaudis work.

There is so much to the City to be honest that you could never hope to do it justice in a day or two. Port Olympic is very swish, lots of decent restaurants during the week doing a menu del dia for about 9 euros for 3 or 4 courses.

Also Barca has its very own Arc de triomphe.  Nou Camp worth a look, first thing you see when you go into the museum is a picture of Billy Bremner. They remember Leeds well over there and still regard them highly.

If you go to Park Guell try go in the entrance at the side where you go up a very steep street on an escalator giving you the chance to peer through peoples windows.

Poble Espanyol at night is good if they have an event on such as the open air cinema. It's a fake town quite near the fountains.

Avoid eating or drinking on the Ramblas . Whilst it's great for people watching (and pick pocket watching) you'll be severely stung. Although try the Cafe Opera which is cool. (albeit indoors)  Cafe Zurich at the top is okay for al fresco. The Boqueria market is worth a look - and a sniff too.

General rule is that - on the Ramblas heading up - the right hand side is better than the very sleazy left.

Placa Reial is worth a drink and a meal under the huge palm trees  - but gets busy with stags & hen do's & beggars.
Les Quinze Nits  is a great place for nice cheap fodder, but always has queues.

I'll be there when Bayern visit. I'll have to take some Leeds/England paraphanalia

I think any chance of a look inside the ground will now be goosed - arrive 6th leave on 9th.

Aren't "work" trips ace - I managed to blag one from the USA to Munich to see us play TSV in a CL qualifier a few years back - I needed to see one of our gas discharge tube manufacturers "with some urgency."

I got tickets as "entertainment" for the locals an' all (who were duly entertained - they were Bayern fans).  Sweeeeet!

If you are in Barca, it might be worth seeing if the reserves are playing the night before. They have a tidy 20,000ish seater jobbie next to the Nou Camp. We managed to catch a game there when Leeds played that one-off game against Stuttgart back in the 92/3 season.

Work didn't pay for that trip though - bastards!

going on friday until sunday - group of 20 of us on my little cousin's stag trip. I'm actually afraid  tryyryo.gif
