Anyone interested?

I had been mulling over making this dumb idea into some sort of competition, but in the end couldn't really be arsed as the ones I do take up far too much time already. However.......

In skeleton form:

You start with every team in the Premiership, Championship, League One and League Two.

Using the various League, FA Cup (ignoring non-league opposition) and League Cup fixtures, you follow each team until it loses and is replaced by the team that beats them.

As a painful example, the opening game between Leeds and Southampton means that Leeds "collapse" to Southampton for Southampton's next match.

This doesn't rule Leeds out from reappearing later, but this can only happen if they beat one of the live teams.

The competition would therefore be:-

1) How many different teams will logically remain at the end of the season?

2) How many in each of the four divisions?

3) Name the teams

Obviously the number of "live" teams rapidly collapses as the season progresses - making the competition easier to run each round.

Cup upsets could mean that some strange teams could be left at the end.

Anyone want to have a go, or is this even more pointless than Flange!?

I've no idea how to score this though.
Grind

Thinking about it, keeping track of the cup games might be a bit of a nightmare - maybe this is bollocks.
grunt

Flange is not pointless!

Except when Forest plays it of course.

I'm in if it doesn't take too much effort, even though I don't know what the feck you're talking about..

I just had a quick go at putting together the individual leagues only version and, as of now, there are:-

PL) 16 live teams
C) 10 live teams
L1) 10 live teams
L2) 10 live teams

Since you cannot ever go up in number, only down, this suggests to me that each division will almost certainly collapse to one team, possibly even by Christmas?

Pick the team for each division?
grunt

I can't really get my head around it. So it's the last team standing and that might be a team that has not won any games until finally winning and finding itself to be the last live team.

Yep - that could easily be the case. Makes it all a bit random.

I suppose we could get around this by only allowing games between live teams to count, but I do quite like the idea of teams returning as long as one of the teams playing is live.

As an example, Leeds are back as one of the live Championship teams.

So if I (or forest to make it more realistic) picked 4 teams and they all lost on day 1 what would I do then?

Wait for them to come back?

To bang on with Leeds example:-

Round One
Southampton beat Leeds - Leeds dead, Southampton live
Ipswich beat Bristol City - Bristol City dead, Ipswich live
Blackpool beat Hull - Hull dead, Blackpool live

Round Two
Middlesbrough beat Leeds - Boro stay live, Leeds stay dead
Hull beat Ipswich - Ipswich go dead, Hull go live

Round Three
Leeds beat Hull - Hull go dead, Leeds go live

I guess this is meaningless on a week-to week basis.

A bit of a dull competition then.
Grind

That was fun, we'll have to do it again sometime.
grunt

I only joined in to wind up forest, but he didn't bite.

Same time next week then
Forest

I'll have Peterborough please.

You're terrible at this.

Peterborough's so dead it's not funny.

Well, it is a little bit.
