Advice please, Reggies.

Just the facts:

I overpaid nPower from late 2013 to late 2014 by 600+ as their Budget Plan was way over Estimate of what energy I use in the house which i 'inherited' after my Dad departed.

They said they would credit my bank account within 6 weeks.

That 6 weeks was up by December 2014. Not a penny received. Complained by email, which says they will respond within 10 days. They didn't respond.

So I put a Small Claim in, which cost me 60, and as well as the refund, i added 300 for compensation, for being deceived, lied to and minus 600 which would have been very useful for Christmas.

They dispute this and so there is to be a Mediation Call attempt in a week's time.

Thing is, nPower say in their defence that they have fully refunded me even though it is not policy to do so. Well a) they have not refunded anything, plus they have continued taking DD payment for the ongoing bills, and b ) I was promised they DO refund on request.

I'm weirdly looking forward to the telephone call but for now folks, do you think I could be doing more, or at least be planning more, like publicising online what utter shitheads they are?

Contact your MP.

Curently they have jack shit to do parliament wise. And they are desperate for your vote.

It is surprising how much impact they can have getting things out sorted quickly when it comes to public utilities.
Dalek

Contact a national newspaper - either through the feature where they help solve readers' financial woes, or one that has a history on taking on the company concerned.  Or BBC Watchdog. And, as Plastic Man said, contact your MP as well.

If your MP is aware that you are in contact with the aforementioned parties, they will be keen to prove their effectiveness in resolving their constituents travails.

You never know...

Good Luck - and keep us updated.

Thanks chaps, will do.  just emailing my MP now, nowt to lose and he's a decent bloke.  i hope my opinion of him is deserved, let's see if he replies

My MP has just replied, offering to help if I need it.  It has passed that stage anyway but it's quite impressive how quickly he responded.
Heyho

And contact Ofgem

I will add that to my 'promises', thanks.

nPower are a useless shower of shite.

I pay for the gas and electric by direct debit. Shall we say at the time, 150 a month.

Recently they notified me that based on an "actual" gas meter reading, they were increasing my monthly payments threefold to 450 a month. This meant I would be paying thousands of pounds extra a year.

When I checked the gas meter, the reading bore no resemblance to what they claimed it was on the bill. So they sent out another bloke to read the meter.

It turns out I actually had been overpaying every month and was massively in credit.

I'm now paying 15 a month, a tenth of what I had been paying previously, to bring down the excess credit.

Any complaints, insist on compensation. They'll knock 25 quid of your bill without quibbling.

It's the blatant lie that infuriated me PM, in their written defence to the court, that they have fully refunded me.

I can accept the woman I spoke with was either wrong or over-promising and she wasn't lying.

I have very much truncated my actual recent experiences with nPower.

Yes - lying, failing to honour promises (to return calls etc.) serially featured heavily in my recent unpleasant experiences.

Request compenastion for each occasion it has happened.

Ofgem was a good suggestion. Local media love this sort of thing as well.

Mention that you are considering expressing your indignation via Radio Leeds/ Look North etc. nPower will ty and down-play it, but it shows you're serious.

(You might get to publicise a few books while you're at it!)

What was the result of the small claim? Has the court given a ruling?  I'd like to tell you to instruct bailiffs to attend their head office to seize goods to the value of their debt but it depends on what stage you are at with your claim.

I'm always tickled about folk who send in bailiffs to big business.

Mrs FC had a similar problem when her dad went into a home. He was overpaid on his standing order by about 500 and it took her months to get it back. Some of the account documentation they sent was absolutely impossible to decipher. No doubt deliberately.

Try and keep your cool on the telephone conversation and make sure you have all your data and correspondence with you. If you have a speaker phone then get someone else in the room to listen to what's going on.

Ofgen is a good idea. I haven't used them but I used Ofcom when I had a dispute with BT. They gave me a reference number and as soon as I hit BT with it they shat themselves.

Also try Citizens Advice. They can be a bit hit and miss - but some people there are really switched on.*

I use OVO for all my energy now. No problems with them in 3 years.

*no pun intended.

Cheers.  Thing to note though all is, I am 100% not in the wrong

The Mediation call isn't conference, so in other words it's me and Swiss Tony  Or whatever nationality the neutral is.

All the same. My contract was up with Edf last April so I switched to one of the smaller companies Ovo. Electricity was switched over at the end of april - then Edf started walloping me for some crazy Gas bill because they had estimated it (the actual estimate reading has only just been reached last month). Had red bills blah bah blah and found a few hundred quid credit turn into owing them several hundred pounds.

Anyway just sorted this month and a bill from Ovo (not their fault) for 9 months gas. Luckily I have been paying enough .

Most on here will be pretty clued up with these things. But how many people are getting fleeced
