The no-alcohol-because-you're-on-antibiotics is largely a myth - there are very few antibiotics that interact with alcohol.

If they do potentially interact with alcohol, there should be an "avoid alcohol" warning on the label or the patient information leaflet.

And of those antibiotics that do potentially interact, only a proportion of people are liable to be affected.

I'm planning on eating nothing but Wagon Wheels for a fortnight.

Get the medicine cabinet ready.

No bud. The Monday before I had a tooth out and I was suffering a bit with it when I was with you lot (you wouldn't know as I'm not a sympathy-seeking big Wendy), it got to Monday which was a week after the extraction and I was still in pain. Contacted the dentist and they got me in ASAP. Turns out it was summat called a 'dry socket' which is when the gum doesn't heal up as it should. So she prescribed me some antibiotics and its done the trick. Will have my first drinky this week tonight.

PM, interesting stuff about the antibiotics with alcohol. I will keep it in mind, but these did say in big letters on the label: AVOID ALCOHOL.

If it says avoid alcohol, then I'd recommend heeding the advice. You can get an unpleasant reaction - it's similar to what alcoholics might experience when they're on Antabuse (taken to deter them from drinking) and drink.

I'm guessing from the "dry socket" you might have been prescribed metronidazole (Flagyl)?

If so, the advice is, "Do not drink alcohol while you are taking metronidazole and for at least 3 days after you stop taking it. You may have unpleasant side effects such as fast heartbeats, warmth or redness under your skin, tingly feeling, nausea, and vomiting."

Fantastic! Where can I get some?
Grind

Mrs Grind's been known to have a dry socket.

Kushty. I'm halfway through a can of Guinness. It was metronidazole.
