And that Christmas special 'The Frogs Legacy'. Classic. There was some brilliant writing carried off excellently by David Jason throughout the early and middle part of the shows screen life. The last few years of it were shit. They should've packed in long before they did. It should have been put to bed after they sold the rare watch and came into the big money. I hear they are doing a one-off for Sport Relief staring David Beckham. Won't be watching that.

Yep, and as for the "special"  i think i'll be asking for a refund of all my previous donations on the strength of it already.

maybe I've been a bit harsh but the later ones and the reunions were gash. I suppose what I object to is how its always mentioned as such a classic when others or similar merit are forgotten. Any show that runs 30 years is going to make some good episodes but Fawlty Towers did it in just 12

The last few years of specials were embarrassing, shamefull cash cowing from an artistic point but who are we to judge what people do to work. For me the years of laughs the show gave me ensures it goes down with the best of them including Fawlty Towers.

It's not often quality comedy combines with popular and critical acclaim and becomes engrained into the national psyche (Friends, Dads Army, Fast Show, Fawlty Towers and errrm....). That's the testimony to the writers and actors. There were the big laughs, the so called classics but it's the  dozens of brilliant minuets that have the longevity. "Tally ho Rodders" at the shoot, Uncle trying to navigate the boat by looking at the stars (there's millions of them), Granddads " I'd think twice" and Triggers broom. All stuff that has ingrained its language and references certainly into mine and my mates' lives. Comedy references that capture life better than mere words can. Trigger was ace at that.

This from the weekend on the country estate for which Derek procures a gun:

Rodney: Oi, where did you get that gun?
Derek: Iggy Iggins.
Rodney: Iggy Iggins? Iggy Iggins robs banks.
Derek: Yeah but it's a Saturday.
