He won't have to wait too long for a job opportunity at the Toon.

They're due to start looking for a new Messiah any day around now.

He looked TERRIBLE, like a tanorexic granddad who's suddenly lost a lot of weight and is gonna pop his clogs very soon.

Says he's been off booze for 4 weeks and clean for 14/15 weeks (of drugs I'm assuming).  didn't say how long it is since he abused his wife or kids but that's not for me to criticise.

I like him a lot and even if the Beeb get stick for having him on as a pundit, I applaud them for it, and they treated him well, asked him straight to the point questions.

He's mentally ill and to be brutally honest I think he's a hopeless case - the only thing that can help Gazza is himself.  At the moment it does look like he's doing his best.  Poor lad was ill before he made it as a pro while George Best brought it on himself, imho.  Not that I was exactly cheering when GB died either like, i'm not such a twat any more.

Surely being an addict/addictive personality, he is precisely the one who can't help himself? It sounds like he's trying his best to turn it around and he is clearly getting help in one form or another. good luck to him, everyone needs an eighth or ninth chance  :

judging by those diamond earings and the stripes shaved the side of his head can we be sure he is off the drugs. he seemed to have a very sweaty top lip and i sensed they had edited the Q&A at the end quite a bit

Hard to believe he's only 41. Looks like Iggy Pop's dad.

Seems to be a serious attempt to rehabilitate him at the moment. He was on Loose Women last week.   MOTD is a pice of piss after that.

NOC, he said he was 15 months clean and four months sober. I was told by someone who'd know that anti-psychotic drugs can make you slur your words and give the appearance of being under the influence. He did look like he was just two stops from the terminus mind. What was all that homo-erotic guggling by Childs about his amazing torso? Very disturbing that.

Far from being knowledgeable on mental health matters, Seal, I wasnt meaning to cast judgement or owt on him. He can have thousands of people helping him but if he isnt strong enough then he goes back on the booze etc, that's what I meant. If he isn't strong enough then it doesnt matter, an addict does their utmost to deceive those helping him, to get another fix.

I'd be delighted to be put right as I honestly am not qualified in any way concerning these matters, but an addictive personality (is that a clinical term for Gazza's problems or is it media talk?) doesnt mean a person's unable to get off whatever his addiction is, does it? I know he has been diagnosed to have OCD and Tourettes but don;'t know that much more about him, but I'm sure the people he has hurt the most will have tired of all the apparent support and the 'good on him, he's doing his best' attitudes.

How did the Loose Women thing go then? He had a lot of enemies (mainly women) after his book came out and he'd admitted to beating his missus.

Ta mate, I did know it was months and not weeks, God knows why I put weeks.  We were discussing it when he said '4months off the booze' as we watched the Channel 4 doc about him so were 'clverly' working out the timing to see if he was lying.

Sorry all.

I know about personal responsibility and fucking up everything you had but surely there must be someone to help this man? He clearly cannot do it alone.

LONDON Former England star Paul Gascoigne has been arrested for the second time in two days, police confirmed Tuesday.

The ex-midfielder was taken into custody along with another man by police called to the Blackwell Grange Hotel in Darlington, northeast England, on Monday night.

Gascoigne was later released without charge after being questioned on suspicion of a public order offence.

The 42-year-old was previously arrested at the weekend on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, police said on Monday.

Gascoigne, who has struggled with alcoholism and depression, was arrested after officers were called to a disturbance at a takeaway restaurant in Leeming Bar, Yorkshire, northern England, on Sunday evening.

As well as his drink-related problems, Gascoigne has admitted heavy use of cocaine and has undergone treatment for bulimia and obsessive compulsive disorder. He was sectioned three times under the Mental Health Act in 2008.

Gascoigne - known to fans as "Gazza" - made 57 appearances for England in an international career that included a starring role in his country's run to the semi-finals of the 1990 World Cup.

He played for Newcastle, Tottenham, Lazio, Rangers and Middlesbrough as well as having a spell in China.

Paul Gascoigne is said to be in a "comfortable" condition after being involved in a car accident last night.

The incident, involving a Vauxhall Astra, happened at about 9.45pm, on the city's Quayside. The car, in which 43-year-old Gascoigne was a passenger, is believed to have left the road before hitting a lamppost next to Newcastle's historic Guildhall, close to the Tyne Bridge.

Four ambulances were sent to assist the driver and three passengers. Three of them were then taken to Newcastle general hospital for treatment. A 36-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving.
