They are the form team at the moment.

'She said no' Marlon should be playing, so at least the few who turn up should have some fun.

Extremely disappointing result especially as Leeds were the better team in the first half.

You do wonder when on earth our luck is going to change. Not as a team but as a club.
I have this familiar sinking feeling...

Or that just the feeling of supporting Leeds ?

Roll Up, Roll Up, The Circus is in town.
Never let it be said that Simon Grayson does not possess a sense of humour.
How else could you explain the , quite frankly, ridiculous and comical sight of the  diminutive young Zac Thompson marking the Giant Nikola Zigic ?
Not once, but repeatedly last night , this was the sight that met the stunned gaze of less than 20,000 (Much less my the evidence of my eyes)hardy folk enduring sub zero temperatures at a clinically depressed Elland Road.
The pair reminded us all what a lad and Dad attending a football match used to look like, back in the good old days when that was within the financial compass of the general population. All that was lacking was a bobble hat for Zac and a cup of Bovril for Nik.
Listening to Eddie Grays less than probing Yorkshire (Pravda) Radio interview making my way home after the match, Simon revealed that he knew that Leeds would struggle from set pieces last night. I nearly crashed the car.
You have to congratulate Zigic on his clinical finishing, his four goals last night doubled his seasons total to eight, five of which have been scored against Leeds United. However, rarely will he have an easier ride .
Leeds , to put it in snooker terms, had potted a red and a black and followed this up by smashing the balls all over the table, fill your boots Nik.  He did.
Leeds started the game well and by the time McCormack scored with a neat shot from the edge of the area  should have been two goals to the good, Becchio missing two gilt edged chances in the first three minutes of the game. Grayson had called for the backing of the fans and got it.
When Birmingham scored their first they barely deserved parity but they grew in confidence and Leeds visibly wilted in an all too familiar fashion, we were level after an hour by 70 minutes we were dead and buried. The doors had fallen off the Leeds United clown car.
The entertainment served up included Tom Lees trying to place his head into Zigic’ armpit and O’Dea performing his world famous and unrivalled disappearing act.
You have to question just why Simon believes that loaning a man who can’t get into Celtics first team is going to add to the Leeds United team. Is O’Dea better than the likes of Bruce, Bromby and O’Brien ? I don’t think so, he is at his best, mediocre.
Of course the patience of the Leeds fans wore thin and the Bates Out chants grew, as did the mocking of the policy of filling our team with other clubs players.
The second Brum goal featured three Leeds defenders being hypnotised for several seconds by the excellent Burke before picking out Zigic in the box.
By the time the ring master Grayson made his first substitution
(85 minutes, I mean why change it eh ?) half of the crowd had decamped and the big Top was looking quite sad and empty.
Another drubbing at home, back in the day Leeds would have bared their teeth at the very least, not these days, meek acceptance is the order of the day.
I put it to you that if football was the the first priority of the circus owners, Simon would have been long gone.
However he appears to be a cheap and uncomplaining option and as such fits the bill. Simons interview contained  a couple of gems including the fact that Zigic (Zigid to SG) “Is a man “ and we have a very young defence who will make mistakes, this on the day when our gambit had been to sign an inexperienced 21 year old Spurs right back.
The message for Barnum and Bailey is this “ If you pay peanuts, you get monkeys “
We've thrown in the towel, Send in the clowns.

Cheers Leb, excellent stuff.

How's the midfield looking? Seems good on paper though I haven't seen Townsend yet. Is it all about the defence?

Well, they don't all appear to be pulling in the same direction.

At the start of the game last night Delph was high enery and closing people down , as was Snodgrass, Clayton was very poor throughout.

Birmingham found our closing down hard to cope with at first but after they scored we dropped off alarmingly.

Clayton isn't justifying his place , Townsend does some good things but jibs out of 50/50's.

Delph does look good in possession but of course is off back soon to Villa.

We lack pace up front, Becchio is a pale imitation of his former self, McCormack is clever but lacks pace also, and they play miles apart from each other.

Thompson didn't actually play badly, out of position a couple of times but he got no support. White and O'Dea were awful, Lees needs a dominant partner, a bit like Frank Spencer or whatever

Right so not many reasons to be cheerful then. Maybe the back four could be half decent in a couple of years, which isn't soon enough for SG. Sure, they're only young - as a certain square headed manager of yore might say.

Years? It seems like a couple of hours wasn't enough.

Morale must be pretty low at the moment. Our best players have fucked off. The youngsters haven't lived up to their potential, and the rest are just there to pay the mortgage.
No commitment from the old twat to build on a promising start last year.

SG's speed-dating selection policy hasn't helped though.

Leeds United can and will always surprise you. capable of defying every expectation hopeful or otherwise but it's a rare talent to both meet and defy them simultaneously. I fully expected to get thumped on Tuesday but the manner of it came more unexpected than a Marsden heat wave. Twatnav picked me up after tea the Marsden frost still clinging to his car roof.

It was a full five minutes before we said almost in unison that we expected certain defeat. We both confessed  that if we didn't have season tickets neither of us would be going tonight. Brum kicked off with us in a straight 4-4-2 including a startlingly young back four. Despite that we won the early balls and built up well finishing eventually with a poor pass from Snods to Thompson. We recovered and attacked down the left and a Brum clearance almost on the goal line. Back we came this time down the right, a snods low cross finding Becchio who scuffed the guilt edged chance. The big man had chance to make amends a short while later finding himself   one on one with the keeper after being put through by Ross. His body shape was all wrong as he side footed the ball wide.

Still we pressed, a terrific Townsend cross finding the keeper. Clayton and White linked up well before a superb cross ball from Delph found Snods who cut in and shot at the keeper. A swirling free kick again to the keeper ended the fabulous start and Brum attacked. We quickly dispossessed them and launched another ourselves before Brum finally exerted a hold with some neat passing themselves ending with a comfortable save. It was a terrific start. Brum broke again but we were quick in the tackle ruining it with a rushed clearance and back they came. Lonergan saved and two corners followed before they hit over the bar.

McCormak then picked the ball up and burst left. His low shot beat the keeper and we were 1-0 up. More pressure followed with Snods picking up another great cross field pass. He cut in but his chip went for a corner. Meanwhile Fab was putting in some great ball winning tackles to break up Brums sharp passing game. Townsend relieved the spell by forcing himself a corner.

Brums next attack came down our right. Zidic laid off and turned into acres of space. The entire kop saw him but not our defenders as he stole a yard and nodded the cross in for the equaliser. Snods was quick to respond with some trickery and a cross but Delph hit it wide. Snods then produced the other dimension to his burgeoning season by tracking back brilliantly tackling and setting up another move. White was fouled but we sent the free kick into dead ball.

Townsend continued the response with a great turn and cross but we had no aggression in the box to finish it which has been a feature of our play this season. Snods and Ross were continuing to link up well but it was Townsend who got the next terrific cross in that was headed back at the far post only for it to be hooked wayward. 2 minutes added time were somehow compressed to one while we were attacking much to Becchio's annoyance as a very good half came to an end.

We commenced the second halp with a poor punt into the box followed by a Snods feed to McCormack who's neat chip evaded everybody. Alarm bells sounded moments later as a header from the unchallenged Zidic was saved. Still we were the team pressing forcing throws and corners but still Brum looked capable on the break. Their defence was caught flat as the vainly appealed for offside as first a Becchio shot then a header was saved.

Becchio tried a flick but Ross didn't read it before Brum surged down our left and rounded an isolated White. An unmarked Zidic crashed in the low ball across the box to make it 1-2. Moments later another easy header from the same man made it three and it was suddenly game over.

Becchio won a ball. Townsend crossed and from Brum's next attack it was 1-4 as Zidic headed in with absolute ease. What the fuck is going on sang the Kop, Here's what.

Simon Grayson is a young manager and so far he is getting threes and fours out of  five for most things except his creation, maintaining, development and organising a back four where he gets a big fat zero. A sympathetic one out of five is taken away for his appointment of absolute clueless blokes around him who scout, advise him, coach and train them. Our constantly rotating back four has been a three year nightmare and Simon is the man responsible.

Ken Bates is an odious and egregious individual of that there is no doubt. I can take that, i don't have to like the chairman. His business model is straight out of the 80's property market. I'm all for infrastructure development and i like to think i can see beyond Ridsdalism but it is obvious our club, our ambitions and the whole Leeds United concept is too big for his lone wolf cavaliering ruthless ego driven one man carpet bagging mission to make a killing out of his "final football adventure"

While he is drip feeding funds and finance at a rate compatible with an ambitious Scunthorpe, Norwich, Southampton, West Ham etc swing on..Players we want to stay leave, players we want here wont come and fans disappear some never to come back along with their kids making it ever harder for us. Football is not like property selling, it does not wait. Wake up Bates and realise that or pass us on to someone who does and get out of our lives forever. As i write rumours of Warnock coming grow stronger. Tell you what why not erect a statue of Emlyn Hughes on Lowfields Road, get Rod Liddle as PR man and recruit a mob of Millwall fans to do the stewarding as well.

Meanwhile back at the ranch Brums manager was replacing Zidic presumably in a sympathy move for his counterpart on the gallows next to him. The game dissolved into nothing. Clayton Ignored Snods and shot wide as Snods just looked nonplussed at him. Bates Out started on 79mins despite his absence. We sent a hopeless pass foreword to their full back. White swung an outside foot pass to no one. Pieman read out the other scores behind me in the kop as Snods produced another cut in and shot  to applause from the crowd still appreciating his talent.

Brum mounted an attack that Lees Headed away seconds before we did into the frosty gloom outside. The rest as they say is history

Apologies if i have misspelt the scorer i have no wish to research him

Many thanks to Leb and LD for the quality journalism. Loads better than the anodyne shite you read in the dailies.

Egregious - good word
